Volkswagen is on a roll and is launching a slew of models in India. Besides the Multivan, Touareg, Phaeton and Beetle , it also plans to bring in Germany’s car of the year, the Passat. The critically acclaimed sedan is to drive into Indian showrooms. Currently undergoing tests at ARAI, the passat will intially be launched in two engine variants. A 2.0 litre TDi engine with 140PS as wellas an FSI engine with 150PS will be the engine options available. Both cars come with six speed manual gearboxes as standard but DSG and tiptronic might be available as options with the petrol and diesel model respectively.
The passat is loaded with features such as ESP, adaptive cruise control, six air bags, draft free air conditioning, bixenon headlamps , tyre pressure monitoring sensors and an electro-machanical parking brake. It also acquired a five-star rating in the EuroNCAP tests making it one of the safest in its segment. Volkswagen plans to price the car above Rs 21 lakhs.
